ABOUT

Hello and welcome to our 2 Reason Trek.
We are super excited about our upcoming trek and can't wait to share our experiences with you.

Our names are Jordan and Lucky. We love the outdoors and love any opportunity to walk/hike some place new. For many years Lucky had the dream of climbing Mt Everest. In 2013 we decided we were going to make it happen...well half happen. Come November, 2014, we are climbing to Base Camp, Mt. Everest.

But we didn't want to do it for no reason...so we came up with two reasons!

In short:

  • We want to fundraise for "Our Home community" orphanage in India
  • We want to encourage people to get outdoors.

How you can help:

  • Donate to "Our Home community"
  • Get outside...stat! Go and enjoy the amazing outdoors!

Reason ONE: We love "OUR HOME community" orphanage.

A few years ago...4 years to be exact...Jordan traveled through India. He ended up in Kerala, (South India) at a small orphanage called "OUR HOME community" run by a beautiful husband and wife. He spent some time here and grew a great love for the children and the wonderful people who have given everything but the clothes on their backs (literally) to help these children have a brighter future.
Currently they are building a new room for the girls. Every cent counts and Chako and Avi are incredibly at making every cent stretch as far as possible. They take in as many children as they can and provide them with love, a home, an education and nutritious food. Feeding that many mouths can be challenging and takes a lot of rupees (or in our case $ dollars). We are hoping to raise as much as we can through our trek to help support this wonderful community. Not a cent of it will be going towards us or our travels. In fact the best way to donate is directly to them, through their website:

Reason TWO: There are not enough young people getting outdoors these days!

Since we were youngsters we have been outside. Both lots of parents encouraged us to play in the dirt, climb trees, ride bikes, fall over, get back up....you get the picture. We have continued doing this even as 'adults' but we have noticed less and less people our age (24 and 25 for those playing at home) outdoors. We find pockets of people but they are slowly dwindling.
We want to get the outdoor message out there to our population. We want to see more people hiking, camping, swimming, surfing, climbing and just plain getting outside. On our last hike in the Flinders Ranges we saw two other couples our age and both were from Europe. We know there are lots of people who do get outdoors, but we want to see lots more. SO that's our second reason...we want to raise awareness of the awesome outdoors. It's sounds cliche, but it's what we truly want to do. You don't need to donate, you don't need to sign a petition...just get outside for more than a minute and no, the walk to your car does NOT count :P
